Trai data shows Reliance Jio added close to 85 lakh subscribers followed by BSNL with 5.5 lakhs and vodafone idea lost 23 lakhs and Airtel lost with 15 lakhs connections in Dec’18. The overall Tele-density in India increased from 91.21 at the end of Nov-18 to 91.45 at the end of Dec-18.The Urban Tele-density increased from 159.81 at the end of Nov-18 to 159.98 at the end of Dec-18, andRural Tele-density increased from 59.27 at the end of Nov-18 to 59.50 at the end of Dec-18. The share of urban and rural subscribers in total number of telephone subscribers at the end of Dec-18 was 55.62% and 44.38% respectively
Total wireless subscribers (GSM, CDMA & LTE) increased from 1,171.76 million at the end of Nov-18 to 1,176.00 million at the end of Dec-18, thereby registering a monthly growth rate of 0.36%. The Wireless subscription in urban areas increased from 645.71 million at the end of Nov-18 to 647.52 million at the end of Dec-18, and wireless subscriptions in rural areas increased from 526.05 million to 528.48 million during the month. The monthly growth rates of urban and rural wireless subscription were 0.28% and 0.46% respectively.
As on 31st December, 2018, the private access service providers held 89.98% market share of the wireless subscribers whereas BSNL and MTNL, the two PSU access service providers, had a market share of only 10.02%.
